Hi,

first of all thanks a lot for the incredibly good tutorials. I am currently working through the wing design. Everything worked well until I reached the wing tip version *b.

While the revolve steps works completely fine, I can select just the lower line but instead it always marks the whole lower section.

Could you help me out what I am going wrong?

Hey @jvhiemer,

You've got to options; you can either select the sketch or select the edge of the body. This video explains the difference very well. You need to select only the edge and if you move a little be to the inside it will select the whole profile!

If it still doesn't work, then please attach the file and I'll show you how to do it.

This is how I created the wing-tip to my new gilder:

Hey Ben,

thanks for the fast response. What I did to create the wing tip was:

  • New sketch on end of wing
  • Projection for end of wing tip, which also activate the points on the edge
  • Created the evolve, worked fine

But when I try to created the loft I cannot select the lower line, but instead all edge of the end of the wing, of the low section. Attached a video to demonstrate it:

@jvhiemer,

First you have to zoom in to be able to select the line and not by accident a point or a whole profile.

Second, there is also a good change that you forgot to split the airfoil sketch!

Hi Ben,

thanks for your support. I was able to do this by rebuilding the wing from scratch. I was missing some fixed lines etc.

Now I have a problem with the lower part of the wing tip. When I create the line, I cannot derive the relation of the upper point although I have the intersection made on both points.

I create a video, where you see it. Do you have an idea what I am doing wrong here?

Thanks for your support!

The Project Intersect is a bit tricky. You will have to project the whole section in order to project those 2 points you are looking for.

I believe I have already reported this issue to the F360 support.

Alright, understood. That also explains, why the loft creation seems to failing afterwards with:

Error: The guide is not G1 between first and last sections
Error: Tool body creation failed

Then I will keep playing around trying to figure out how I am able to create the project intersect. Somehow a bit frustrating. 🙂

Thos two errors could be because of other issues. I need to see what you are doing when you get the error!

Hm, I found one error I made, namely that I forgot to configure the Revolve as "New Body". Now I was able to have the project and line as I wanted to, but the loft fails.

This is a classic error for a typical thing that many people forget to do.

Open the rail sketch and make sure you have a Tangent constraint between the curved geometry and the straight lines, from both sides of the curved geometry! 😉

Hm I am pretty sure I did this.

I also tried to apply another one, because I was not sure what you meant with both sides, but it says "Constraint has already been applied".

Ben, thank you very much for your time trying to help me. My frustation is getting bigger and bigger as I find myself being not capable of achieving this stuff, although I have your video tutorials. I was able to reproduce everything you did, except again: the loft.

The thing that does not work for me are the black lines for Rails.

As you can see it is always marking the whole element, or even the complete background. I am out of ideas. 🙁

1. Make sure that you do the cut after the stitch!

2. Make sure that the sketch is hidden since you need to select the edges!

Send me the file if that doesn't help.

I was able to complete it. It looks different to what you did, but it is a step forward. For documentation purposes and other people stumbling over this thread I will put the current file here.

Did you watch my last video? If you did exactly as I showed you, then it should work.

You should watch it again, and pay attention to all the small details.

@benk  This is wing tip 'A'

I think that I have managed a good end result.

One point, your wing tip section already appears to have the purple circles as chord points. I made a best guess from the previous extrusion lines. Is this right?

Sorry, Wing Tip 'B'. Looks like I am trying them each back to front.

The "the purple circles" is a projection. Your end result looks good. 👍

Onwards and upwards. Next Type 'A' wing tips.

Thanks.
