[Sticky] Beginners - Starting Up with the Benchmark Table

For people who are just getting into the world of 3D modeling, Rendering, Animation, and CAD, the question “what computer to buy?” is coming up every time.

One of the main reasons we ask “what computer to buy?” is mostly because of limited BUDGET! And we want to spend our money wisely. Now, before you continue reading, don’t forget to read the article “Should I buy a Desktop or a Laptop???” and make sure (as possibly you can) to have an idea if you are going with a Desktop or a Laptop. The price differences can be very big and it will be a shame to spend a lot of money so early if you don’t have too.

There are many ways that you can use the Benchmark Table, but for now, I'll talk about 2 of them; the Test Results section or from the Components section.

  • If you start from the Components section, that means you already have an idea which component/s (CPU) model you are looking for and want to compare between them. You filter the CPU models, adds them to your Favorites and compare their Test results.
  • You could also dive into the Test results directly, using the Average as a baseline, either as Max. or as Min. under a specific software test filter. After doing that, look at the Components section and you can continue with filtering the component in order to minimize the results, then you can add some of the results to the Favorites for further analysis.


Note: Remember to set your performance expectations based on your BUDGET and your actual need. We all want to have our software to perform as fast as possible, but in most cases, you will also need a very fast and expensive component. You should Bare in Mind, the 2 most expensive components are; GPU (30-40 % of the total computer cost) and CPU (20-30 % of the total cost)!

Let’s take a look at how we can use the table to find what we want:

  1. First, you should start by creating an account if you haven’t done so already.
    There are some really cool features that you won’t be able to access if you are not a member AND don’t worry, the platform is totally free!.
  2. Go to the video test section and Watch the test video for your software, it will help you understand what the test results in the table are representing
  3. Go to the Toggle Software column and click on your software.
  4. At the bottom of the Test section (bottom right side of the table), you will find the “Average row” results for each test column, note the Average for your software.
  5. Click the filter icon to the left of the test header name (a Popup balloon will open), enter the avg. in the “Min.time“ (Low time/number = Fastest). In the Max. time (High/number = Slowest) add the avg. + 30%.
    E.g. Min. time = 0000 // Max. time = 0030 (5 min. + 30% = 6.5 min.). Think of it as “Low time = Fast/Expensive CPU = more $$”.
  6. If you get too many results, continue to filter In the Component section. Start with Desktop or a Laptop, Windows, MacOS or Linux etc.
  7. Add the rows you are interested into your Favorite (by clicking on the Heart symbol).
  8. In the Favorite tab, you will find the rows you have just added. Click on the left arrow at the beginning of the row and under each row, you click the Plus icon and from there you add links to eShops and the prices for the parts or computers with those parts.
  9. Now comes the fun part. On the left side of each row, you will find a Checkbox. Before checking those boxes, make sure you have a Software selected.
    Select only 2 rows at a time and watch for the results that appear at the Software Toggle row. There you will find the cost difference and performance difference in percentage “%” together with the actual value. Those results will tell you, Price vs. Performance gain – how much performance gain you will get for X amount more/less money. – This is our unique feature that you won’t find it anywhere else! ?
